Planetary aspects: the angles between points

Aspects are angular relationships such as conjunctions, squares and trines. Here is what "aspect" means geometrically.

An aspect is an angle

An aspect is the angular distance between two points in a chart, measured in degrees along the ecliptic. It is a geometric relationship, not an object in the sky. Interpretation attaches traditional meanings to certain angles.

The commonly used angles

  • Conjunction: about 0°, two points close together.
  • Sextile: about 60°.
  • Square: about 90°.
  • Trine: about 120°.
  • Opposition: about 180°.

Orbs and exactness

Because points rarely sit at a perfect angle, traditions allow a tolerance called an orb. A smaller orb is usually treated as a stronger or more exact relationship. Whether an aspect "counts" depends on the orb rules a method chooses, which is one reason different tools can list slightly different aspects for the same chart.

Aspect interpretations are symbolic conventions. NaYinTop computes the geometry from birth data and labels any AI-written text about it; nothing here is a prediction or professional advice.
