Retrograde motion: an apparent, not literal, reversal
Retrograde is a perspective effect from Earth. Here is what the term means before any interpretation is added.

An optical effect
A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to move backwards against the background stars from our viewpoint on Earth. The planet has not physically reversed direction; the effect arises because Earth overtakes, or is overtaken by, another planet in its orbit.
In a chart calculation
- Ephemeris data can mark a point as retrograde at a given moment.
- A natal chart may record which points were retrograde at birth.
- Transit notes may mention a period of apparent retrograde motion.
Symbolism versus geometry
Traditional astrology attaches symbolic meanings to retrograde placements. Those meanings are cultural conventions layered on top of an astronomical observation; they are not physical effects and are not evidence of events in a person's life. NaYinTop treats them as reference material for entertainment and self-reflection.
